About

Jens Hartmann

Photographer. I do not photograph places — I photograph visual states: spaces, traces, structures, moods.

The stance

I do not see myself as a travel or landscape photographer in the tourist sense, but as a photographer with a clear commitment to image concept, planning, atmosphere, order and reduction. To me an image is not the snapshot of a place but the composition of a state.

What you see here

jenshartmannphoto.com is the more commercial, more accessible side of my work — curated prints and portfolio photography from travel, the city, the portrait and the detail. It stands alongside hartmann.art, my fine-art platform: there the stricter, conceptual selection, here the works that read immediately and can hold a room.

Tools

I work with the Fuji GFX 100 II for maximum image quality and large prints, complemented by a Sony full-frame camera for travel and documentation. Image workflow runs through Capture One — captured with structure, selected with intent.

On the road

A large part of these works is made overlanding — on routes, in remote regions, in places in transition. From 2027 this stream of images will keep growing with a longer journey.

The seeing machine

This site does not only show images — it shows seeing. Every work carries its layers of perception: structure, light, print. On entry the image resolves out of its state; on every work page the layers can be called up and held. Not a gimmick, but the thesis of the work turned into an interface: the state first, then the subject.

The catalogue

The works are kept as a catalogue, not a gallery: every work is a sheet with its reference, year and — where editioned — its edition. On the front page one work hangs at a time, dated and with a reason; what comes down stays in the catalogue. Prints on request, size and material matched per sheet.

Work together

An image, a series, a commission.

For print enquiries, editorial, documentation or a specific work — the path is short.
